The Aipao is an all-electric compact hatchback launched in July 2022 under JAC Group's Sehol brand. Positioned for the youthful, sporty market segment, its key highlights include a fastback silhouette, a long 2,760 mm wheelbase, and a rear multi-link independent suspension setup. The model currently records only double-digit monthly sales and has entered the run-out and inventory clearance phase.

Positioned as a C-segment pure electric five-door hatchback, the brand sits under JAC Group's Sehol Passenger Vehicle division (a joint venture between JAC and Volkswagen). Key selling points include an overall length of 4,770 mm, a 2,760 mm wheelbase, a liftback tailgate (540 to 1,650 litres of expandable boot capacity), rear multi-link independent suspension, and a 0–100 km/h sprint time of 7.6 seconds. The 2022 line-up comprised five variants with recommended retail prices ranging from RM139,900 to RM199,900, offering CLTC range ratings of 460 km and 602 km; the 2024 Aipao T / Aipao series is priced from RM152,900 to RM189,900.
The exterior carries Sehol's signature family design, featuring a closed-off front grille with a full-width LED light bar, complemented by inverted L-shaped fog light surrounds integrated into the lower air intakes for a sportier aesthetic. In profile, the fastback roofline is accentuated by sharp dual character lines, while the rear features a continuous full-width taillight cluster—delivering decent visual identity, albeit without a distinct wow factor.
In terms of dimensions, the car measures 4,770 × 1,820 × 1,510 mm, with a 2,760 mm wheelbase. Boot volume stands at 540 litres under standard conditions, expandable to 1,650 litres with the rear seats folded flat.
Inside, the cabin features a symmetrical T-shaped dashboard layout, equipped with a 10.25-inch full digital instrument cluster and a portrait-oriented 10.4-inch central infotainment touchscreen. Flagship variants gain Huawei’s intelligent driving system (utilising 77 GHz millimetre-wave radar) capable of Level 2 semi-autonomous driving assistance. The infotainment runs on an iFlytek voice control suite, supporting 4G telematics, OTA updates, and AutoNavi navigation.
Powering the entire range is a front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor delivering 142 kW (193 PS) and 340 Nm of torque, completing the 0–100 km/h sprint in 7.6 seconds onwards to a top speed of 142 km/h.
Two battery pack options are offered:
| Variant | Battery Capacity | Battery Cell Type | CLTC Range | DC Fast Charging Time (30%-80%) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard Version | 50.1 kWh | Lithium Iron Phosphate (Huating) | 460 km | 48 minutes |
| Long Range Version | 64.5 kWh | Ternary Lithium | 602 km | Approx. 50 minutes |
An intelligent heat pump climate control system comes as standard across the range, ensuring superior driving range performance in colder conditions compared to segment rivals.
Underneath, the chassis utilises front MacPherson struts paired with a rear multi-link independent suspension setup, co-tuned by Magna and Volkswagen to deliver a planted and refined ride for the class. It rides on 215/55 R17 tyres, equipped with an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) and Electric Power Steering (EPS).
Equipment levels vary significantly across variants:
460km Entry Variant (Xianting Manbu): Reverse camera, cruise control, 6 airbags (dual front, front side, and full-length curtain airbags), synthetic leather upholstery, and automatic climate control. Omissions: 360-degree surround-view camera and Level 2 ADAS.
High-spec Variant (602km): Adds a 360-degree surround-view camera, Level 2 ADAS suite (comprising Adaptive Cruise Control, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Assist / Lane Change Assist, and Rear Collision Warning), wireless smartphone charger, 64-colour ambient lighting, and a powered tailgate.
On the passive safety front, mid-to-high-spec variants are equipped with 6 airbags (driver, front passenger, front side, and curtain airbags), built around a high-tensile safety cage body structure.
The Aipao has struggled with lacklustre sales figures since its launch. By July 2023, monthly registrations sat at just 207 units, slipping further into the double digits by 2025. Weak brand presence and uncompetitive pricing (starting at RM146,900 compared to the Qin PLUS EV at RM129,800) were the primary factors.
Quality Complaints (12365auto): Consumer complaints predominantly centre on the 2022 460km variant. Recurring issues include high-voltage traction battery faults (inability to drive or charge), burnt charging ports post-battery replacement, and persistent secondary faults after workshop repairs.
All in all, the Sehol Aipao presents commendable mechanical packaging (rear independent suspension combined with a practical liftback body) and decent kit, with its 602 km long-range variant once standing out in its price bracket. However, weak brand equity, frequent battery-related defects, and low market circulation have led to its effective discontinuation. It is not recommended as a new car purchase; buyers considering one on the used car market must thoroughly inspect battery state-of-health (SoH) and existing warranty coverage.
